THEY say a good man is hard to find.

But if you are looking for a woman, go no further than Alice Springs.

The town is officially ranked number one in Australia’s top 10 for finding eligible women.

Australian Bureau of Statistics states there are 84 men to every 100 women in Alice Springs.

NT regional director Chris Liberi spoke to the Alice Springs Town Council last week to describe population changes in the town.

He said Alice Springs was going against a trend evident in the rest of the Territory.

He said: ‘‘There are 106 males to every 100 females in the NT. Across Australia in the 20-39 age group, 52 per cent of males were unattached compared to 44 per cent of females.

He said one of the reasons there were more females in Alice Springs was because of the occupations they worked in.

He said: ‘‘There are more females in professional roles.’’

Mr Liberi said there had been a rise in singles in Alice Springs since the census in 2001.

‘‘In 2006, both Alice Springs with 42.7 per cent and the NT with 41.7 per cent, had significantly higher proportions of people who never married.’’
