Duo to line up for school side

RISING stars Bradley Van Leur and Ella-May Hampton will be flying the flag for Central Australia at the 2009 School Sports Australia Basketball Championships.

The duo earned spots in the Northern Territory squads following stand-out performances for Desert Storm at the recent School Sports NT Basketball Exchange in Darwin.Van Leur, 12, said he was looking forward to the opportunity of playing in a big basketball tournament interstate.

He said: "I'm looking forward to the experience of playing against some really good teams and hopefully playing well and shooting some goals."

One of the youngest players in the girls' squad, Hampton, 11, said her first time in Newcastle was bound to be a great challenge.She said: "I can't wait to be playing against some really good players and learning from the experience.''Hampton plays her local basketball with Federal Wallabies in the under-12s and under-14s, while Van Leur plays for Memo Magic in the under-14 competition.The 2009 School Sports Australia Combined Championship Event will be held in Newcastle from August 8 to the 14.
