Tips to writing an effective ad

All our classified sales advisors are able to help you with making the most of your advertising dollar but here are a few basic tips to an effective ad:

  1. BE CLEAR - Ad must state clearly what it is about, e.g., if you are advertising a position, start the ad with position title or if you are selling a car then start with the make & model of the car.
  2. ATTRACT ATTENTION - To make sure your ad attracts attention, make your heading stand out. Use big & bold headings or you could use an attention getter or colour heading on top of your ad. We have a comprehensive list of attention getters available e.g., link to attention getters.
  3. BRAND YOUR AD - If the brand is a well known, then it is a good idea to state it so it justifies the selling price you want for your item.
  4. INVITE INTEREST - but steer clear of too much detail. The ad needs to invite interest so they can call you & find out the rest.
    1. EG for cars - include the make, model, year, special features, BUT let the customer call you to find out colour, details of service history etc.
    2. EG for real estate - include suburb, price, earning potential, features of house etc BUT let the customer call you regarding type of gardens, features of workshop etc.
  5. MOST IMPORTANTLY - Price, how can the customer contact you, are there photos available to be viewed, what is the address for an "Open Home Inspection".
